Don't get impatient...
Frame off ground up restoration requires serious attention to detail!
This classic came in on wheels but will need the maximum effort to return the body to "straight" condition. After removing all of the aesthetics, electrical, engine, drive train and bolt on equipment we finally got down to the nitty -gritty. We performed extensive body repairs to the
metal work and fab,
rust, collision and whiskey dents. The more detail the better the finish. This has already consumed over 80 hrs alone, just in
body prep to bring the overall condition to a except the first coat of primer. The next few weeks will be hand finishing all of the trim areas, headlights, hood, rear seat deck and rear panels. The body inserts and fine detail on the fender walls and zooming metal up to the headlight inserts, in short the entire body so that when finished the car has the smooth sleek unblemished lines it was so famous for in early 1958.
Why so much detail work?
Often times the customers see's a similar car with a different color than original, so what might be standard or industry standard prep on light colors, will never pass if multiple or dark color finish is applied. With the advent of the new
water-based, low-VOC primer, clear coat and high gloss finishes, the colors look deep wet and super high gloss at cure. So every blemish has to be repaired correctly or the end result is a disaster.
